Follow-ups managed with DrDoctor

Topics: Building a solution

Trusts can get a grip on unnecessary follow-up appointments and prioritise patients that need to be seen urgently with our new Follow-up Management product.

DrDoctor is transforming outpatients departments with the release of our Follow-up Management Product. After a beta launch with 3 major NHS trusts, The Christie, Nottingham University Hospitals and Aneurin Bevan Health Board, DrDoctor is making our game changing Follow-up Management product available to the wider NHS.

Throughout the NHS and healthcare systems worldwide, scheduling follow up appointments ‘just in case’ is common practice. Research shows that more than 70% of those appointments could be managed by a short telephone appointment, or don’t need to happen at all. And the NHS Long Term Plan commits to reducing face-to-face outpatient appointments by up to a third over the next five years. With our Follow-up Management product, clinicians can assess their patients digitally, and make an informed decision on whether a face-to-face appointment is needed, saving precious time and money for both patients and hospitals.

“A key feature of the product is the ability to directly inform the patient on what the outcome of their assessment is. Keeping patients informed is key in the successful outcome of any care Journey. It reduces anxiety and makes patients feel in control of their care.

– Maren Groven, Product Manager, DrDoctor

After their initial appointment, patients are enrolled onto a digital pathway that invites them to complete an online form through DrDoctor’s secure Patient Portal. Clinicians will review the outcomes of the form and can compare it with previous results to decide on the appropriate next step.

“Remote monitoring, particularly using something like DrDoctor's Follow-up Management product will enable us to have fewer patients coming to clinics which frees up our time to see more patients in a flexible manner. On the other side of the spectrum, those with severe symptoms are seen much quicker.

– Adam Cox, Consultant Urological Surgeon, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board

We are working closely with NHS trusts, to enable data to flow freely between DrDoctor and existing hospital systems. HL7 and FHIR standards are utilised to have all information about the patient available in one, centralised system. With each deployment, the DrDoctor transformation team onboards the trust to maximise the results of their solutions.
